I’ve purchased this little blender three times over the past 20 years. The first one I got at Canadian Tire for $12.99 on sale. I used it almost daily, even blending ice cubes for my smoothies, and it held up well for about six years until I essentially wore it out. Then, I bought a second one on eBay for $17.99. Unfortunately, I ran that one into the ground too, and the glue that held the blades came loose, causing everything to spill out the bottom of the cup. I can laugh about it now, but at the time, I was pretty frustrated when my half-mixed smoothie ended up all over my counter! A tip: place it on a round plastic surface, like a plate, just in case.
Now, I’ve got my third blender, and it’s a lovely red that matches my microwave and kettle. It cost a bit more, but it’s definitely worth it! So far, it’s working great, and I believe the extra investment is justified. I absolutely love these blenders; they save me from spending money on expensive smoothies where I can’t control the ingredients. I don’t add sugar, which makes it healthier for me to make my own. I like to keep it simple with a little plain kefir, some frozen fruit, and plenty of water, and I’m good to go. Good luck!

Impressively powerful and fairly priced. This is far superior to the rechargeable options I’ve tried. I’ve had two rechargeable ones—one burned out and the other stopped working. So, I decided to get this wall-plug model, and it’s fantastic! It blends quickly and efficiently. Plus, it comes with a handy to-go cup for convenience when you’re on the move.

Outstanding product! It works exceptionally well, is easy to use, and simple to clean. It doesn’t take up much space for storage, making it perfect for processing small quantities in the kitchen. Ideal for travel!

I highly recommend it for making simple smoothies with milk, fruits, and protein. The instructions advise against blending hard solids like cookies or meat. It comes with two cups and is very easy to clean.

This blender is perfect for making single-serve smoothies. It’s powerful, compact, lightweight, and super user-friendly. It crushes ice effortlessly and blends smoothly. While it is a bit loud, it’s not overly disruptive. My only drawback is the portable cup; the lid doesn’t secure well and it can be awkward to fit into a vehicle cup holder. I typically just transfer my smoothie to another cup and head out. Cleaning is a breeze, and the unit is small enough to fit neatly in a cupboard. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars!

The Hamilton Beach Portable Blender is fantastic for making quick shakes and smoothies! The 14 oz BPA-free travel cup is the perfect size, and the robust stainless steel blades blend ingredients effortlessly. It’s user-friendly and easy to clean, plus its compact design makes it ideal for on-the-go. The red color is a nice bonus as well!

I’ve noticed that 98% of the complaints about this product stem from users not utilizing it correctly! I wish I could reach out to them and share some tips! For starters, many said the cup wouldn’t stay in the base for blending. The trick is to TURN IT and LOCK it into place! There’s a clear lock and unlock indicator at the bottom of the cup—set it to unlock, then turn it to lock.
Another common issue I saw was regarding the lid; some claimed it just sits on top and leaks. In reality, the lid fits snugly, perhaps even too snugly, and it can be a bit of a struggle to get it on. But once it’s secured, it won’t leak at all!
Most importantly, you MUST add liquid to blend with this machine! You can’t just throw in fruits or vegetables and expect them to blend without any liquid. If that’s what you want, you need a vegetable chopper, not this smoothie maker. There’s a minimum liquid marker at the bottom, and you need to start with at least that amount, likely more!
Also, blend in stages; don’t overfill it to the brim and expect results. For instance, I added almond milk and frozen bananas first, blended that, then added the rest of my frozen fruit and additional liquid before blending again. You might need to stir things up a bit, or if the lid is on tight, tilt it side to side while blending to mix the ingredients effectively.
This machine is designed for pulsing and short blending intervals. I read a review from someone who ran theirs for 10-15 minutes and was confused when it started to smell funny. It’s not meant to operate that long!
This is an excellent little smoothie maker when used correctly. I’m on my second one because I misplaced my first. Just remember, if you’re not adding liquids, it won’t work. If you want to chop fruits and veggies, get a chopper! But if you’re looking to make smoothies, iced coffee, soups, or similar, I highly recommend this product!

I’ve purchased my third Hamilton Beach blender in about four years, with the first one bought in December 2012 and the second in June 2015. Now it’s February 2017. Both blenders burned out after frequent daily use, and the first one even had a cracked plastic bottle that started leaking. I was frustrated when the motor on my second blender failed even quicker than the first. To be fair, I use it almost every morning for my green thickie. This Hamilton Beach blender isn’t the most powerful; it can only crush small ice cubes with careful pulsing and plenty of liquid, and even with my experience, the motor seems to burn out every couple of years.
Despite this, I keep coming back because it’s affordable, effective, easy to use, and simple to clean. I’ve tried two other popular brands from Amazon (Ninja and Epica) but found them lacking for my needs of making green thickies and occasional almond milk. This budget-friendly Hamilton Beach outperforms them all. I appreciate the design, especially the large mouth for easy pouring of oats and liquids. It stands upright, making it easier to add more greens or liquid while blending. Once I got the hang of it, it doesn’t spill and only requires a quick rinse to clean. This convenience is a big reason my breakfast routine has remained the same for almost four years.
There is a burnt chemical smell, especially when it’s new, but mine lost that odor after a few days of use. It can still emit a smell if I press it hard on ice or frozen fruit for too long (which I try to avoid, even though I love banana ice cream). To make those, I just remember to let the frozen bananas sit out for about 10 minutes before blending, and I have to be patient.
In hindsight, I should have purchased the three-year warranty with my first blender, which might have saved me some money. But honestly, for $15 each, they’ve served me well for four years, probably amounting to a thousand uses!
I’m taking off one star for the burnt chemical smell, which makes me uneasy given its potential health implications, and another for the weak motor and plastic construction. Nevertheless, I really like it and wonder how long my third one will last. I just hope the company isn’t cutting corners on motor quality.
That’s quite a lengthy review!
