These are the best high-protein bars I’ve come across. They offer more protein than most, have a soft chew, and boast superior flavors compared to others. I’ve tried countless protein bar varieties, and these are by far the best.

I’ve always relied on the 10 to 1 protein rule to gauge protein density (10 calories per 1 gram of protein), so I was initially skeptical when I learned these bars are nearly 5 to 1 (150 calories for 28 grams of protein). That ratio typically reminds me of bland chicken breast or gritty protein powder. However, these bars have surprised me—they’re lean and actually taste great. I haven’t come across anything better in terms of flavor and calorie value. The chocolate chip cookie dough flavor is my absolute favorite. Here’s what I appreciate about them:
They offer the macros of a protein powder with the convenience of a bar. This is the only product I know that combines both features. Other protein bars tend to be much higher in calories, sugar, and fat. Protein powders are inconvenient since you need a shaker to mix them, which is also a hassle to clean. Plus, they don’t keep me full. Bars are a much more convenient option that I can toss in my bag without a second thought.
They taste fantastic, and the texture is equally impressive. The bar is soft, but the mix-ins, like chocolate pieces and crunchy bits, add a delightful crunch.
They keep me full. This was the biggest surprise for me. Even if they didn’t manage that, the macros and flavor alone would have made me a repeat buyer. But these bars actually sustain me between lunch and dinner, while other bars only last about an hour.
Overall, I’m very impressed and will definitely be buying these again.

I first tried David bars last year when they were launched, and I enjoyed them, but I didn’t reorder due to the price. Recently, I saw several ads for them, which reminded me to give them another shot, so I ordered the variety pack.
The good news? They tasted fantastic! I particularly loved the salted peanut butter flavor. The texture was superb—definitely one of the best bars I’ve ever had. I have to admit that the blueberry flavor didn’t taste much like blueberry, but it was still enjoyable as long as I didn’t think of it that way. I was excited to explore sample packs for the cinnamon roll and red velvet flavors, which I hadn’t tried yet.
Now for the bad news. I checked the ingredients when I bought them last year but didn’t think to do so again for this new batch. To my dismay, I found that they now contain maltitol, sucralose, and ace-K. I refuse to consume maltitol ever again! I’m really disappointed. As a T2 diabetic, these bars raised my blood glucose by 30-40 points.
Sadly, I won’t be ordering from David again unless things change. I’m giving it 3 stars because the taste and texture are amazing, and if you’re looking for a good protein boost and don’t mind the new sweeteners, you might enjoy these bars.

I absolutely adore these bars! My registered dietician recommended them, so I know they’re healthy. She mentioned they have an excellent macro balance of protein, carbs, and fats relative to their calorie count. Unlike some protein bars, the flavors are distinct and enjoyable. My favorites are the blueberry and salted peanut, but honestly, they all taste great! If you’re sensitive to textures, be aware that these bars are chewier than others, but the flavor definitely compensates for that! I’ll keep purchasing these exclusively!

I purchased the variety pack and I’m really enjoying the peanut butter flavored bar. I appreciate that it’s not overly sweet, and the texture is fantastic. The birthday cake flavor is also quite nice. If the other flavors are just as good, I will definitely be placing another order!

I typically enjoy Quest protein bars due to their widespread availability, reasonable price, diverse flavors, and acceptable macros. I also like Barebells because they resemble real candy bars, making them feel more like a treat than just a protein source. While there are tastier bars out there, they often come with higher calories and/or less protein. I aim for around 200 calories and 20g of protein, and there are many options that meet these criteria. Ultimately, taste and texture are subjective.
That being said, the David bars are quite different from the denser options I’m used to. They are light and fluffy, which caught me off guard across all the flavors in the variety pack. I found the flavors to fall into two categories: three I would eat again and three I wouldn’t. Fudge Brownie topped my list, likely because it’s a chocolate bar, while the two peanut butter options, Cookie Dough and Cake Batter, felt similar. Still, I enjoyed them and wouldn’t mind having them regularly. Blueberry Pie was good, but I wouldn’t want it often. However, I didn’t enjoy Cake Batter, and Salted Peanut Butter was just like Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk but with salty bits and no chocolate, which didn’t appeal to me.
That said, I’m not aware of any other bars on the market that offer 28 grams of protein for just 150 calories. If you’re focused on macros, are in a calorie deficit, or are mindful of your calorie intake, saving 50 calories while gaining 8 additional grams of protein is significant. Many people would likely tolerate less tasty options for that benefit.
The price is on the higher side, but that’s to be expected. Until other companies produce bars with similar macros, it seems worth it to pay a premium if this is important to you.
